TUTORIAL - Design Element: Line

Ok, so I wanted to share a little tutorial I wrote. Just a little something I learned from a class I'm taking at the Art Institute of Pittsburg. Amazing use for digital scrapbooking...and traditional scrapbooking...and well, for photography as well!

DESIGN ELEMENT: LINE

PSYCHIC LINE:
A psychic line is a line which is not visible, as if someone had drawn it in paper. Instead, it is “felt” as a mental connection between two elements. For example, if you were to point to a bird in the sky. Though there is no drawing of a line from your hand to the bird, our eyes follow and a psychic line results. It’s that simple. Through psychic lines, an artist has the ability to lead a viewer’s eye movement in the direction he or she wishes it to go.

IMPLIED LINE:
An implied line is created by positioning points so that the eye automatically connects them. A familiar example is a dotted line. Or in another form, it could be a line of people waiting to board a flight.

ACTUAL LINE:
Actual lines are just that; lines with no break. These lines vary in weight and character. They can be straight, wavy, loopy, diagonal, bumpy… The possibilities are endless.

So take a look at your layouts and notice the different lines. Can you tell them apart? Do your eyes flow the way you want them to across the page? If you notice that you utilize one of these types of lines more than the others, try another type out. And remember to always have fun!!!

New Site

Ok, so I've moved to a new site: ScrapbookGraphics. I wanted a more realistic feel to my layouts. And I wanted to expand my creativity. I used to be against "scanned" elements, but have recently become enlightened. Why should I go through the trouble of scanning and trying to erase when someone else can do it for me, and create a great kit in the process? And my pages look crazy professional now. Since I plan on starting a business, this is a key factor which is very important. And, speaking of businesses, I don't have to pay extra to use most of the products I purchase there for my business. I think that having to do so is a bit crazy...especially in these times.

But enough of that. I have to get some offspring to bed! LOL! Will post more later... Well, eventually. You know how unreliable I am with my posts here. I need to get better about it.
