Wow! Last Post in 2009!

So I have been working hard in school, trying to learn all that I can. I moved from online courses in 2010 to on campus courses in 2011. I have had several classes so far and met a lot of great, uber-talented people. I am almost done with my AA in Photography and will be moving on to get as much from their Bachelor's program in the Winter of this year. I have only 4 classes (after this Summer term) left before my AA is complete.

I've posted several images that I did for last term's classes on my blog here: http://myartisticmuse.blogspot.com. Check them out if you like.

I'm really bad at keeping up with my blogs, obviously. Hopefully one day in the future I'll be more able to keep up. Life is really just too busy at present, though.

Until later!

HOT HOT HOT!!!!!!!

It is hot here in the Pacific Northwest. VERY hot. It's currently 95F outside. When we woke up this morning, the girls and I took our showers and I got us ready to go to the store to buy a few things. By the time we left the house, 9:30am, it was already 75F outside. Yikes! And when we went to the store, they were all out of fans. Crazy. It was even on the news (the lack of fans), so I'm told.

We have an air conditioner (portable) that we bought last year, so we were all set. We have two portable air coolers, too. But the a/c is in the girls' room, so we've had to funnel the air out. We have a fan by the door to the girls room, and an air cooler further out. We had the other air cooler in the dining room facing the living room (we have a 900 sq ft apartment). I just moved all the fans to funnel the air from the girls' room and added more ice and cold water to one of the coolers, which has cooled things down in here significantly. I closed the other bedroom door and the bathroom door so the cool air isn't dispersed over areas we aren't in for the majorit of the day. We've camped out in the girls' room for the nights, obviously. We did the same thing last year.

It's hot, hot, hot outside. The problem is that it's not going to get any cooler until next week. Fun. I hate hot weather like this. Really. The girls are wearing their diapers. That's it. I'm in boxers and a sports bra. Not the most beautiful of sights, but who cares? It's heck-a hot outside!!! I wish there was some relief at night, but no. It's dipping down to about 70F tonight, and just a few degrees below that in the coming nights.

Even though it's cooler in here, it's still warm enough for me to not want my girls to climb up on me. Alethea doesn't seem to get this. And apparently it's not hot enough for her to stop being a bully to her sister. She's pushing Rayah down and being a little brat, disobedient. It's too hot to have to be disciplining her all the time, but I must, so she gets a fair amount of spankings. Wish she would be obedient. I know, it is wishful thinking, but I can't help it. Rayah's constantly crying to me and wanting me to pick her up, but she refuses to stop touching things on the desk. Very annoying.

She's crying for me to pick her up right now so I have to cut this post short. Wish me luck...

TUTORIAL - Design Element: Line

Ok, so I wanted to share a little tutorial I wrote. Just a little something I learned from a class I'm taking at the Art Institute of Pittsburg. Amazing use for digital scrapbooking...and traditional scrapbooking...and well, for photography as well!

DESIGN ELEMENT: LINE

PSYCHIC LINE:
A psychic line is a line which is not visible, as if someone had drawn it in paper. Instead, it is “felt” as a mental connection between two elements. For example, if you were to point to a bird in the sky. Though there is no drawing of a line from your hand to the bird, our eyes follow and a psychic line results. It’s that simple. Through psychic lines, an artist has the ability to lead a viewer’s eye movement in the direction he or she wishes it to go.

IMPLIED LINE:
An implied line is created by positioning points so that the eye automatically connects them. A familiar example is a dotted line. Or in another form, it could be a line of people waiting to board a flight.

ACTUAL LINE:
Actual lines are just that; lines with no break. These lines vary in weight and character. They can be straight, wavy, loopy, diagonal, bumpy… The possibilities are endless.

So take a look at your layouts and notice the different lines. Can you tell them apart? Do your eyes flow the way you want them to across the page? If you notice that you utilize one of these types of lines more than the others, try another type out. And remember to always have fun!!!

New Site

Ok, so I've moved to a new site: ScrapbookGraphics. I wanted a more realistic feel to my layouts. And I wanted to expand my creativity. I used to be against "scanned" elements, but have recently become enlightened. Why should I go through the trouble of scanning and trying to erase when someone else can do it for me, and create a great kit in the process? And my pages look crazy professional now. Since I plan on starting a business, this is a key factor which is very important. And, speaking of businesses, I don't have to pay extra to use most of the products I purchase there for my business. I think that having to do so is a bit crazy...especially in these times.

But enough of that. I have to get some offspring to bed! LOL! Will post more later... Well, eventually. You know how unreliable I am with my posts here. I need to get better about it.

Christmas Eve

So it's Christmas Eve and I'm up early, as usual. My sister is supposed to be flying in with my nephew tonight. At least, as long as the weather cooperates. We're supposed to get another moderate snow storm today and tonight. Hopefully her flight fron North Carolina won't get delayed, or worse: cancelled! I haven't seen her since February and am looking forward to seeing her again...and seeing how much my nephew has changed since he was 4 months old.

Anyway. The whole family is up now, so I'm going to have to cut this short. Besides, I'm STARVING!

Happy Scrapping!

A Little Gift For You

Hello,

It's been a while again, I know. So busy with school and the girls and getting ready for Christmas. Our family is off to buy our tree today! Yay! And to do more Christmas shopping for the girls (and each other).

But I've been thinking of sharing some of the kits and quick clicks that I've made in the past year or so with you all-. Actually, all of them! LOL! Yippee for you, right? So roughly every day check back here for a link to a new freebie Kit, Add On, Word Art, or Quick Click.

Here's today's freebie Kit. I made it after Barack Obama was elected President this year... Guess you could say I got inspired.

Hope you enjoy...and leave some love if you download (although I won't be mad if you don't..we're all busy this time of year, so I understand).

My Poor Baby!!!

We have had a rather interesting 24 hours, though. After spending many hours at church, Alethea had a 30 minute nap. Around 7:30pm she was climbing up in my desk chair, as she does often, and she fell, as she does often. Usually she falls on her butt, but this time she fell on her head and her left arm/hand. She was immediately in tears. Inconsolable. After about 2 hours of her crying, I called Christian to come home and help with the girls so I could attend to Alethea. I finally got Alethea to sleep around 11pm. She slept until about 2:30am and then woke up crying. She wouldn’t really stop either. So, finally we were all able to go to sleep around 4am. Then Rayah woke me up at 7:30am and Alethea woke up soon after.

As I was getting her dressed, she cried a bit when I put her left hand through her shirt sleeves, which immediately caught my attention. I began to watch her and how she was using her hands/arms. I noticed that she was favoring her right arm and nursing her left arm. I began to think she may have either broken or sprained her arm in the fall, so I began to test her to see. I checked her arm, feeling for any breaks. I couldn’t feel anything, but she was tender. So then I tried to give her things to see if she would use both hands, or favor the right one (she’s right handed anyway). She favored her right hand, keeping her left arm pretty much in the same position as much as possible. Then I tried to give her some things that she would have to hold with both hands. Instead of holding them with both, she just grabbed them with her right and set them down because of their weight. Any time she put pressure on her left arm/wrist she cried.

Because of all that I had observed, I decided it would be a good idea to get her in quickly to see a doctor. She was seen at 12pm. He suggested that x-rays would be best because he couldn’t tell if there was a break or not, either, and he noticed her tenderness on her left arm/wrist, as well. So we had to go to a separate building for the x-rays. After about a 10 to 15 minute wait we were finally checked in and then we had about another 5 minute wait before they were ready to start the x-rays. She did NOT like the x-ray. Especially since they wanted her to lay down on the table and then have me manipulate her arm into different positions and hold it there for the picture. I was allowed to be with her, so that was good. Otherwise it would have been worse. She cried from the time I laid her down on the table to the time I was able to pick her back up again. They took 5 different positional pictures.

When we got back to the doctor, he took a look at the x-rays and said that it was definitely broken. She had broken her bone right below her wrist. My poor baby!!!! He had the nurses put a splint on her. I was worried that she would cry and have issues while they were putting it on, but they said that most kids are actually happy and peaceful because it relieves their pain. They were right. She was happy and talkative and NOT whiny! What a relief! Then they scheduled her for the orthepedic doctor, who will fit her for and place her in the cast. She gets her cast on Wednesday at 8:30am. She has to keep it on for 6 weeks, so she should be able to get it removed on Christmas Eve…if they’re open. If they aren’t open, I will have them remove it the day before.

She was so tired from the trials of last night, her pain, and from the long morning and early afternoon, that she fell asleep in the car. When we got home, she went to sleep very quickly and slept for a little over 2 hours. A beautiful thing for me.
Alethea and Rayah’s godfather, Jason, watched Rayah while I took Alethea to her appointment. And I am SO thankful he did, because I could NOT have handled them both with all we had to do for Alethea’s appointment. So, special thanks to Godpoppy! THANK YOU!!!

So tomorrow we're going to the orthepedic doctor to get a cast put on Alethea. I am not looking forward to that. We have to be there by 8am to fill out paperwork and then we have the consultation and finally the casting. The whole things should take about 2 hours. Not my idea of a good time. Luckily Christian is going to be with me to help out. He took some time off of work so he could help with Rayah at the appointment. I'm going to have my hands full with Alethea.

I'm going to ask the orthepedic doctor to give her a soft cast and a water-friendly one. Otherwise they'll give her a cement cast. And she likes to play rough with other kids. A cement cast would be a very bad thing.

So that's it. My Poor Baby has a broken bone!
